The abrupt decision issued by the Home Minister yesterday to reject Malaysian United Democratic Alliance’s (MUDA) appeal for registration suggests that the bizarre handling of MUDA’s application for registration as a political party is due to political interference.
Under the illegitimate Perikatan Nasional government, the nation has seen a significant backsliding of democratic practices including the suspension of Parliament.
The failure to grant MUDA due process in its application is another example of the assault on Malaysia’s democracy by a government which has demonstrated an appetite to violate all Constitutional norms and ethics in order to cling to power.
I call upon the Minister of Home Affairs to grant MUDA a fair and objective review under rules of the Societies Act of 1966.
