Tributes pour in for former MIC president Tun S. Samy Vellu who died at the age of 86. Many leaders had paid their last respect to the longest-serving cabinet minister. His statesmanship and contribution to the nation and community will be a legacy.
We can't deny the fact that he contributed a lot to the nation and the Indian community by setting up MIED, Aimst University, and Tafe College which uplifted the lives of the community in the country.
Although he left us with his legacy, some allegations involving his name remain black marks of his political career. Many of us are aware of the allegations made against Samy Vellu that he has hijacked 9 million Telekom shares from the original 10 million shares allocated to MAIKA and allegations of MIED scandals.
These issues remain as most controversial scandals involving MIC and its former president. Many of us had called to set up RCI on this issue but it's still pending.
Previously PH mooted for RCI on MAIKA Holdings and MIED but it was unsuccessful since the government has been toppled within 22 months. Many of the promises made via the manifesto, especially to the Indian community unsuccessful since PH has been betrayed and toppled.
Recently Keadilan President DS Anwar Ibrahim promised forensic audits on Maika, MIED, and Mitra if Harapan returns as the government under his Premiership.
Anwar Ibrahim had insisted that the government funds allocated to the Indian community should be made transparent and help the real poor Indians, not the proxy. This made MIC uneasy and come up with attacks on Anwar who talked about the betterment of Malaysian Indian socioeconomic status.
In reply to Anwar, the current MIC President Tan Sri Vigneswaran called Anwar to audit PH GE 14 promises to the Indians saying that Anwar has failed to fulfill the election manifesto. It sounds childish when the current MIC President tries finger to point out Anwar to cover up the scandals involving MIC.
Due to respect, Tan Sri Vigneswaran should understand that Anwar was not the Prime Minister during PH's time. Secondly, the PH government only lasted for 22 months and was later on toppled with help of MIC as well. Many reforms were unsuccessful due to the betrayal as well as the Indian manifesto.
It's also to be noted that PH managed to set up special measures to resolve the red ic issue within 100 days whereby the PH government announced that elderly citizens above 60 holding red it will be given citizenship.
After the fall of the PH government, we are being clueless about the red ic issue. MIC is busy politicking and having bigger gatherings and events but poor Indians still struggling walking to JPN just to get citizenship.
Tan Sri Vigeswaran should be thankful to DS Anwar Ibrahim for his commitment to conducting a forensic audit on MAIKA, MIED, and Mitra rather than shifting the blame. Not only forensic audit but RCI should also be conducted as soon as possible to clear the late Tun Samy Vellu's name from this scandal.
Keadilan is ready to assist MIC and Tan Sri Vigneswaran to urge the government to set up RCI on Maika and MIED. Let's make it clean and clear.
